Why are pound symbols (#####) in my cells?
This is the Microsoft Excel way of saying there is not enough space to display all of the numbers in a cell. The column needs to be wider. The two ways the columns can be widened, depending on the version of Excel, are the Menu Bar (2003) or Ribbon (2007) commands, or the mouse.
AutoFit Excel 2003
From the Menu Bar, click Format, Column, AutoFit Selection
AutoFit Excel 2007
From the Ribbon, click the Home tab, the Cells group, Cell Size section, AutoFit Selection
AutoFit Excel 2003 and 2007 with the Mouse
Move the mouse over the right-side column border heading. The mouse pointer changes into a double-arrow pointer. Double-click on the right-side of the column heading. The column will adjust to the new width of the column.
