Filling Data in Excel

I am a teacher with an assignment that is a 5 week, once a week course. Figuring the date for each meeting is simple by adding 7 days between each date. But if the class starts in the middle of the month, a 30 or 31 day presents a problem, including February’s 28 or 29 days. I let Excel create a date table that I use with Word in preparing a lesson plan with dates.

The Fill command with Excel 2003

Enter the date 3/18/09 in a cell. Click the Edit menu. Choose the Fill command. Select the Series option. In the Series in section, choose Rows or Columns, to display the dates in a row or column respectively. Change the Step value: to 7, and the Stop value: to 4/18/09, Click the OK button.

The Fill command with Excel 2007

Enter the date 3/18/09 in a cell. Click the Home tab. Choose the Editing group. Click the Fill command, which is in the middle of the first column of buttons in the group. Select the Series option that opens into the Series dialog box. In the Series in section, choose Rows or Columns, to display the dates in a row or column respectively. Change the Step value: to 7, and the Stop value: to 4/18/09, Click the OK button. I get the 5 dates I need, copy them to Word, then add a column for the topic of that date.

I get the 5 dates I need, that are copied to Word as a 1-column table. I add a column to the right, and fill-in each cell for the lecture topics of that date. Done deal!
